Green Paper on Policing

Cumbria Police Authority welcomes Green Paper on Policing.

The Police Authority issued a press release on Thursday 24 July 2008 in response to the Home Office Green Paper on Policing.  They welcomed the clear message of government confidence in police authorities and strengthening of their role.

What the Authority is going to do now is for its Members to sit down with the Chief Constable and talk through all the implications contained in the document. They would also like to know your views on the Green Paper so that some good, strong Cumbrian feed back can be given to the Home Office consultation which ends in October.

The Home Office Green Paper entitled "From the Neighbourhood to the National: Policing Our Communities Together" can be accessed below.

If you would like to give your views on the contents of the document you can do so by accessing the following: 'Views'

Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 provides a general right of access, subject to some exemptions, to information held by all public bodies, including police authorities.  Any one who asks for information must be told whether we hold that information and supplied with that information unless one of the exemptions apply.  Public authorities have to adopt and maintain a publication scheme setting out the classes of information available, the manner in which it is intended to publish the information and whether a charge will be made for providing the information.
The purpose of publication schemes is to ensure that a significant amount of information is made available without there being a need for a specific request by encouraging organisations to publish more information pro-actively.  The Act will be enforced by the Information Commissioner.
