How to make a complaint about:
A Member of the Police Authority
The responsibility for considering complaints that a Member of the Police Authority may have breached the members' Code of Conduct sits with the Standards Committee of the Police Authority.

The Standards Committee can only deal with complaints about the behaviour of a member. It will not deal with complaints about things that are not covered by the Members' Code of Conduct. If you make a complaint to the Standards Committee you must explain why you think a member has not followed the Code of Conduct.
The Police Authority
If you wish to make a complaint about the actions of the Police Authority, you can do so by contacting the Local Government Ombudsman on 0845 602 1983. The website can be accessed here.
If your complaint is related to the actions of the staff of the Authority, your complaint must be referred to the Acting Chief Executive, by writing to him at the Police Authority Offices, Carleton Hall, Penrith CA10 2AU, telephoning 01768 217734 or e-mailing using this form.
A Chief Police Officer
The Police Authority is responsible for investigating complaints against Chief Officers (i.e. Chief Constable, Deputy Chief Constable and Assistant Chief Constables). All complaints must be made either in writing to the Acting Chief Executive at the following address:

The Police Complaints system is overseen by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) and governed by the Police Reform Act 2002. You can visit the IPCC website here for further information.
