Policing Pledge
The Policing Pledge sets out what service you can expect from the police in Cumbria. Cumbria Police Authority is committed to ensuring that the public receive a quality service from the police in Cumbria and that is why we strongly support Cumbria Constabulary's commitment to the Policing Pledge. We are working with the Constabulary to ensure that it delivers the Pledge across the county, by making sure that the Pledge remains a priority in its work and by monitoring whether it is meeting the 10 commitments. This includes sending mystery shoppers to police stations and neighbourhood policing teams' community meetings. In our work with the public we are also raising awareness of the Pledge so that Cumbrians know what they should expect and tell the Authority if they are dissatisfied.
This is a summary of the Policing Pledge:
Cumbria Constabulary will:
1. Always treat you fairly and with respect.
2. Provide you with information on your Neighbourhood Policing
Team.
3. Be visible in your communities.
4. Respond to your Neighbourhood Policing Team messages
within 24 hours.
5. Attend emergency calls within 15 minutes in an urban area and
within 20 minutes in a rural area.
6. Respond appropriately to non-emergency calls.
- Within 60 minutes if you are vulnerable, upset or calling about an agreed community priority.
Otherwise, they will make an appointment to see you within 48 hours, at a time that’s convenient to you.
7. Publicise local monthly meetings.
8. Provide crime information and court results.
9. Regularly update victims of crime.
10. Put things right if you are dissatisfied.
Where they don’t meet their promises, they will explain why.
It is very important to the Authority to get feedback from the public on whether they feel the Constabulary is meeting these pledges. A Protocol has been developed between the Police Authority and Cumbria Constabulary on the handling of non-complaint 'Quality of Service' cases. The document can be accessed here. If you would like to provide feedback you can contact us directly or complete a feedback form here.
