Help tackle anti-social behaviour in Workington
People in Workington had their say on how Police can tackle anti-social- behaviour at a community engagement session held by Cumbria Police Authority.
Cumbria Police Authority members and staff spoke to over 200 shoppers on Tuesday 23 March 2010, to find out their views on anti-social behaviour, and how the Constabulary should be targeting resources to tackle issues. The sessions were held in Morrisons Supermarket in Derwent Howe and Debenhams Department Store in Workington.
The Police Authority is responsible for making sure that Cumbria Constabulary is effective at fighting crime and provides value for money. They work hard to ensure local people get the chance to have their say on policing, and that neighbourhood policing teams provide them with the information they most want.
Chairman of Cumbria Police Authority, Ray Cole, said: “Tackling crime and anti-social behaviour successfully depends partly on the support of members of the public coming forward to provide the intelligence that police need to identify perpetrators.
“The community in Workington has told us that tackling anti-social-behaviour is one of their priorities and this exercise gave members of Cumbria Police Authority the chance to talk to people about the issues that affect their neighbourhood, and listen to their suggestions on how to target the problem.
“Cumbria Police Authority is keen to find out about the issues that affect individual communities, and want neighbourhood police officers to continue focussing on anti-social behaviour as a priority. We will be planning further sessions to give people a voice and provide an opportunity for local residents to tell us how the Constabulary is responding to the issues that matter most in their neighbourhood.”
Some of the suggestions to tackle anti-social behaviour issues, from members of the public, included increased visible policing, and increased youth provision, results will be considered at the next Police Authority meeting.
