North West Joint Committee

NW Joint Collaboration Committee

In demanding times for policing, when the police service must be able to deal efficiently and effectively with crime at all levels, the need is even greater for police forces and their authorities to be able to collaborate more closely; whether it be over counter terrorism or disrupting and dismantling organised criminal groups.

Since 2006 Cumbria Police Authority has played a pivotal role in brokering and then driving policing collaboration, especially across the north west region.  As a result, in March 2009 it was agreed that a joint Committee on north west police collaboration should be established to provide comparable levels of oversight over a wealth of new, joint initiatives between the five north west police forces, comparable to the similar oversight on behalf of the public which individual police authorities maintain over their individual police forces.

The first public meeting of the new oversight body was on 28 July 2009 and details of this and future meetings can be found here.
