Born in Manchester Patrick was educated at Moseley School, Alsager College and the Manchester Metropolitan University. After teaching at Wellington School he worked as a director in the textile industry prior to establishing and managing a landscape design business. In 1975 he returned to education and moved to Cumbria, eventually becoming Service Development Manager in the County Council’s Education Department. Post retirement, Patrick has led a number of public and third sector organisations; working in Education, Regeneration, Mental Health and Social Services. He and his wife have six children and nine grandchildren. They live near Cockermouth and share interests in gardening, natural history, modern jazz, antiques and collectables and water sports. Patrick is a lifelong supporter of Manchester City.
