Rob was born in Kenya, East Africa where he lived until he was six. Since then he has lived in West Cumbria.  He is married and has two daughters.

He has been a teacher for nearly thirty years, twenty five of which have been in Whitehaven School where he still loves his work.  He was nominated in 2002 by some pupils and received a Teaching Award for the North East and Cumbria.  Subsequently Rob went on to win the National Teaching Award for School and Community Involvement, which carried a prize of £25,000 for the school. In 2005 he was awarded an MBE for Services to Education.

He has a particular interest in working to engage young people in our community and was recently involved in organising the first ever Cumbria Police Authority Youth Forum.

Rob loves spending time with his family and relaxing by watching sport, doing DIY, cooking, gardening and reading.
