Are you aged between 13 and 21? Do you want to make a difference to your community, have an impact on decisions made, make improvements in your area and meet like minded youngsters?
Youth Councils are being formed throughout Cumbria which will be managed by Ambleside-based national charity the Brathay Trust in conjunction with Cumbria County Council's Children's Services.
There are currently Youth Councils in:
West Cumbria.
Allerdale Youth Council has recently begun to meet and has elected young people to temporary posts while it gets off the ground.
Copeland - The first Youth Council meeting will take place on 5 September and young people from across the district are invited to attend. There are also Youth Forums running in six areas around Copeland.
North and East Cumbria
Carlisle Youth Council is now in operation - new people interested in getting involved could be accepted into the group.
Eden Youth Council needs young people. Representatives from Youth Forums meeting in Penrith, Kirkby Stephen, Appleby and Alston meet up every couple of months to hold an Eden Youth Council meeting but more members are needed.
South Cumbria
Twenty young people were elected to Furness Youth Council in March and they have already notched up a number of achievements, including setting up a website to communicate with young people across Furness and creating a "vision and mission" which sets out what they want to achieve over the next year.
South Lakeland Youth Council is currently working on options on how it will work and new members are being urged to come forward. These ideas will be drawn together and presented by a planning group in November to an audience of young people and invited guests who will then feedback their thoughts.
Cumbria youth Council (CYC) has also been formed where young people representing the different youth councils, get together to discuss how they can work together on a county wide basis.
Nicola Haydon from Carlisle Youth Council said: "I strongly believe that the youth councils will become an important part of young people's lives as it is an excellent opportunity for them to become involved in the things that matter to them, and to get their voices heard in decision making processes.
"I am really enjoying being part of the youth council, and I am looking forward to the training and research that we have planned over the summer to lay foundations for a successful Youth Council."
